Law and Public Safety Pathways
Western Arizona Vocational Education (WAVE) is a career and technical education (CTE) district that helps high school students prepare for life after graduation — whether that means entering the workforce immediately or continuing their education. One of the primary ways WAVE achieves this is by removing the cost barrier to college coursework.
Wave works in three ways -
- Partnerships with local high school CTE programs.
- Payment of tuition and fees for high school students & recent graduates to attend CTE programs at local community colleges.
- Specialized training through our Central Campus courses (Fire Service, Culinary, Nursing).
Law & Public Safety
The Associate of Arts in Administration of Justice prepares students for employment in the area of judicial studies, law enforcement, and corrections. This program provides students with opportunities for continuing education and professional growth, such as career promotions. Students wishing to transfer to four-year institutions will have the academic foundation applicable to various career fields, such as correctional or patrol officers, deputies, park rangers, fish and game wardens, and court officers.
Legal Assistant
The Paralegal Certificate program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the paralegal profession. A paralegal is a legal assistant who is qualified by education, training, or work experience who performs specifically delegated substantive legal work for a law office, corporation, government agency, or other entity under the supervision of a responsible lawyer. The program includes studies in a variety of areas: ethical rules for members of the legal community; strategies for conducting legal research; basic legal writing skills; skills in interpreting legal documents; strategies for understanding and interpreting case law; investigating the facts of a case; preparing a case for trial; analyzing and handling procedural problems; and an overview of law. Students who earn the Paralegal Certificate will have the necessary skills to gain entry-level employment in such careers as paralegals, title examiners, trust officers, contract clerks, legal investigators, and law firm administrators. Successful completion of this program will also qualify students to sit for the Arizona Legal Document Preparer Examination.
